Training Opportunities
The informal and friendly atmosphere of the café with its communal setting, is an ideal environment for people who require a higher level of support and are in the early stages of their skill development. Focusing on soft skill development, the main priority of the training placements is to build the confidence and self esteem of the individual, and in addition equip them with ‘work etiquette’ skills, such as communication skills, presentation, time keeping and team working.

The placements involve a diverse range of tasks from taking orders and preparing food through to customer service and till work. Training although informal can incorporate accreditation through the Open College Network which is encouraged, and administered in partnership with the local college.

Each trainee is assigned a mentor who will support them through their training and work with them to identify their future goals and aspirations and enable them to work towards this. This may involve further education, voluntary work, work experience or if they feel they are ready, moving into paid employment through the Supported Employment route. Placements are time limited to ensure that people progress to the next stage of their career development, although flexibility is inbuilt to accommodate peoples’ needs.

Individuals can also have the opportunity to transfer to Park View Café when they are ready to work in a more challenging commercial environment which will be a real work scenario, preparing people for employment in the open labour market.
